WonderEight AR: Turning Gulfood Green Into a Virtual Experience

At Gulfood Green Expo 2024, WonderEight wanted to create a strong event presence without building a traditional exhibition booth. Digitalhive developed an augmented reality experience that visitors could access by scanning QR codes worn by promoters across the event. After scanning the code, visitors entered a virtual brand experience led by a WonderEight representative. The activation explained the agency's approach to sustainability and showed how technology could create a memorable event experience with less physical material.

Challenge
Gulfood is a busy event where many brands compete for attention. WonderEight needed an experience that could stand out, encourage people to take part and work naturally within a crowded exhibition space. The activation also needed to support WonderEight's sustainability message. It had to reduce the need for a physical booth while still giving visitors something interesting and easy to engage with.
Solution
Digitalhive created a mobile augmented reality experience linked to QR codes printed on bright green shirts. As promoters moved around the venue, visitors could scan the code and enter the activation directly from the event floor. Inside the experience, a virtual WonderEight representative explained the agency's sustainability message and introduced how it helps brands operate more responsibly through design and strategic branding. The result connected a simple physical trigger with a fully virtual experience.
Impact
CO₂ emissions reduced
By replacing a traditional exhibition booth with a virtual activation, WonderEight reported a reduction of more than one ton of CO₂ emissions.
Virtual experience
The activation replaced the need for a physical booth with a fully virtual AR experience accessible directly from visitors’ smartphones.
